The Little Black Lie

Black-owned media is classified as a company that is at least 51% owned, controlled, and operated by one or more African Americans.  Sadly, a 2023 NPR report “The Future of Black Owned Media” stated that “while it may seem like Black-focused media is at a high these days, the reality is only 4% of all media in the U.S. is Black-owned”.  This is a low percentage compared to the growth of viewership that is being displayed throughout the country. It’s also a low percentage when compared to the racial diversity of the population.

First, the small amount of black owns, large-scale media that does exist need only be 51% black owned. Next, the control of those companies could very well be in the hands of the person or people that have the other 49%. Lastly, that is still a meager 4% overall share even with that potentially being watered down and not in our control. This means if we want to see something different, we must do something different.

What can you do?

Support 100% black owned media in the U.S. Support Black On Demand TV with your eyeballs. Download our app. Add us on all of your devices including Roku & Amazon Fire TV. Then add us to Apple TV and Samsung coming fall 2025.  Financially support community fundraisers when they become available.

And most of all, share the network with your friends and family. Keep watching and come back for more.
